Position Summary

We are seeking an exceptional individual that will be the face of our club and who will lead and grow our sailing program. 


Ideal candidate is not just an experienced sailor with strong organizational and leadership skills, but has a passionate attitude that will create a welcoming and inspiring environment for clients and staff alike.


This is a role with a lot of growth potential and we are looking for a passionate, energetic and responsible leader.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management and Leadership

  • Grow, mentor and supervise a team of sailing instructors.

  • Define protocols / policies and ensure that they are followed to provide consistent safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Monitor customer satisfaction and continuously apply improvements and coaching

  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients.

  • Help coordinate schedules, optimize instructor availability and boat utilization according to seasonal demand.

  • Help with special events planning.

  • Provide support to staff and customers on land and on water.

Sailing Instruction

  • Serve as an on-call or a teaching instructor for demand spikes.

  • Help customers improve sailing techniques and safety protocols in a crew of mixed skill levels, from beginners to experienced sailors.

  • Ensure engaging, fun and stress-free environment for diverse customers.

  • Lead engaging group lessons, private sessions, and team-building activities.

  • Promote a culture of safety by adhering to and enforcing maritime safety standards.

 

Base Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the club, ensuring smooth coordination across teams and partners.

  • Define processes and SOPs to ensure consistent safety and comfort on the boats and at facilities.

  • Ensure that the fleet is presentable, in working order, safe and permissible to operate.

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the marina, suppliers and maintenance staff/organizations.

  • Greet and assist clients, ensuring exceptional customer experience.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment at the base, including managing facilities like rest areas, docks, and technical storage.

  • Handle basic administrative tasks, including purchasing supplies, tracking inventory, and managing small repairs.

 

Community Building & Events

  • Foster a warm, inclusive atmosphere to introduce new clients to sailing and nurture their passion for the sport.

  • Ensure presentability of staff and facilities for consistent customer experience.

  • Participate in organization and support club events such as regattas, social gatherings, and educational workshops.

  • Provide information on club products and services, promoting engagement and membership.

Qualifications

  • Extensive sailing experience as a skipper with diverse crews.

  • Proven experience in sailing instruction.

  • US Sailing or equivalent certification (Instructor or Head Instructor) preferred.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience managing client relationships.

  • Attention to detail and being proactive to ensure quality end-to-end experience for guests and staff.

  • Able to lead by example, establish partnership relationships and a collaborative environment while maintaining disciplined and structured approach.

  • Current First Aid, CPR, and water safety certifications.

  • USCG Captain license.

  • Experience with operating/maintaining/rigging one-design keelboats (J24/J70/J80, etc).

  • Experience and knowledge of safe operation of motorboats (ribs) in a busy harbor.

  • Racing and/or racing organization experience is a strong plus.

  • Ability to adjust to the flexible schedule and/or work on weekends.
